Imphal, Jan 28 (IANS) Voting to elect a new 60-member assembly began Saturday morning amid tight security across Manipur.
Polling began at 7 a.m. and will be held till 3 p.m.
Despite serial bomb blasts during the last one week and militant threat, people came out to vote and queued up at the polling booths.
Voting is being held at 2,357 polling booths, out of which 875 have been termed hyper-sensitive.
In addition to the state's police forces, the state election authority is using 350 companies of central paramilitary forces for smooth conduct of the polls.
