Sao Paulo, Jan 28 (IANS) Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo who was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer in 2010 has overcome the disease, his doctors said.

"Medical examinations confirm the complete remission of lymphoma," the team treating Lugo at the Sao Paulo-based Syrian-Lebanese Hospital said in a statement Friday.

The 60-year-old president underwent a test in the hospital Friday, Xinhua reported.

Luga was visited by former Brazilian president Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva who is also being treated in the same hospital for larynx cancer.

Lugo became Paraguayan president in August 2008. He was diagnosed with a "potentially curable" lymphatic cancer Aug 6, 2010.

Syrian-Lebanese Hospital has become famous in recent years. Brazilian President Dilma Roussef also received treatment there for lymphatic cancer in 2009.
