A fire broke out in a building on the premises of Civil Secretariat, seat of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Sources said that the fire started mysteriously in a building adjacent to the main six-storey Secretariat complex at 9:30 a.m. when the offices were opening for the day's routine working. The blaze engulfed the building which houses several government offices. Over a dozen fire tenders are attempting to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to other adjoining structures including the main Secretariat complex.
The main complex has offices of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and almost all other ministers, Chief Secretary and other senior bureaucrats.
All the senior government functionaries are monitoring the firefighting operation on the spot even as all the 3,000 Secretariat employees have been advised to stay out of the premises.
