The Madras High Court on Friday directed the authorities to preserve the body of E. Ilavarasan, who was found dead near the railway track in Dharmapuri on Thursday.
A Division Bench directed the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to hand over the video footage of the post-mortem, which was done earlier in the day, as well as the autopsy report, to youth’s father. The Bench also said: “The body of Ilavarasan may be preserved and if it is needed, a second post mortem can be conducted." They adjourned the matter to Tuesday.
On Friday morning, a petition was filed by A. Ramesh, describing himself as Ilavarasan’s friend, seeking a direction to the District Collector to conduct the post mortem examination either in the Government Hospital in Coimbatore or the one in Chennai by a team of doctors in the presence of the youth’s parents and a doctor of the petitioner's choice. The petitioner also wanted the autopsy to be video-graphed.
A Bench comprising Justice V. Dhanapalan and Justice C.T. Selvam heard the matter.
State Public Prosecutor S. Shanmugavelayudham submitted that the post mortem examination was over. It was done by a team of doctors and it was also video-graphed.
R. Sankarasubbu, counsel for the petitioner, argued that the family wanted the inquest to be conducted on the spot and that the post-mortem be done in the presence of Ilavarasan’s parents and a doctor of their choice. However, the police stated that the post-mortem was over.
