California college shooting: 3 critically injured

Three people were shot in a car at Santa Monica College in southern California Friday, and a suspected gunman was detained in the college library, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The attack occurred as U.S. President Barack Obama was attending a nearby fundraiser but it did not appear that the two incidents were linked, the Secret Service said.

“We are aware of the incident and it is not impacting the visit, Secret Service Spokesman Edwin M Donovan told reporters. “It’s a local police matter at this point.” Two of the victims were in critical condition, and one was seriously injured, according to Los Angeles television station KCBS.

A spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol, Sergeant Denise Joslin, told KCBS that the CHP had

received a report of a man armed with several guns shooting into traffic and at a bus.

She said there were no reports of fatalities, “but that is not something that I would rule out.” “We are not sure that it was a single shooter yet,” Joslin added.
