Arwind Kejriwal to take directly on Shiela Dikshit in coming Delhi assembly elections.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday decided to conduct a direct electoral fight with Sheila Dikshit in the coming Delhi Assembly elections, from the same constituency where she will file nomination.

Speaking at a convention of Aam Aadmi Party workers, Kejriwal also attacked BJP, saying the party nominated weak candidates against Ms. Deekshit in the previous polls and further challenged BJP leader Vijay Goyal to contest against him and Ms. Deekshit in coming elections.

“I wish to take on Ms. Deekshit directly in New Delhi constituency. If she will move to another out of fear, I will also opt to move to the constituency from where she is facing elections,” he said.

However, Kejriwal's candidature will be confirmed only after collecting 100 signatures from people in the constituency and conducting interviews with screening committee and Political Affairs Committee of the party.

“Why has the party decided to take directly on Ms. Deekshit, Delhi wants to get rid of it's chief minister, the symbol corruption," said Kejriwal.

"People can no more see the BJP as a party which can be an optimum opponent to Congress. BJP is playing 'already fixed' match with Congress and people have determined that BJP often deliberately fields weak candidates against Ms. Deekshit. There are some fights going on on the chief ministerial candidate," he said.

“Our party can be a powerful opponent against Congress in the coming elections. For the last 15 years, BJP and Congress indulged in match fixing. BJP is hand in glove with Dikshit. AAP can defeat Congress in Delhi,” he claimed.

AAP leaders including Prashant Bhushan supported Kejriwal's decision to contest against the chief minister.

"We want to make healthier changes to the country, we will field Kejriwal against Ms. Deekshit, who is symbol of the corrupted political system of the country,” said Mr. Bhushan.
