Islamabad, July 16 (IANS) At least one policeman was killed and several held hostage Monday morning following a brazen attack launched by gunmen on a police station in Pakistan's northwest city of Bannu, a media report said.
The assailants entered the police station which was quickly surrounded by police and security forces, reported Xinhua citing a TV channel.
The army has also been called in for help.
The attack took place at about 9.40 a.m.
Eyewitnesses said six to eight armed gunmen stormed the police station in Bannu, a city which is located to the eastern side of the militancy-hit North Waziristan bordering Afghanistan.
At least two blasts were heard in the attack followed by fierce firing.
