North Korea to launch satellite

Pyongyang, March 16 (IANS) North Korea has announced it will launch an indigenously-built satellite to mark the birth centenary of late president Kim Il Sung.

North Korea is to launch the satellite, Kwangmyongsong-3, manufactured with indigenous technology to mark the 100th birth anniversary of late president Kim Il Sung, the official news agency KCNA reported Friday.

A spokesperson for the Korean Committee for Space Technology said the expected launch is in line with the government's policy for space development and peaceful use, reported Xinhua.

After successfully launching two experimental satellites, North Korean scientists have conducted scientific researches to develop and utilize satellites indispensable for the country's economic development, he said.
