New Delhi, March 16 (IANS) The Left parties Friday termed the budget for 2012-13 "clerical" and "ineffective" and said it would increase the burden on the common man.
"It is an absolute clerical and ineffective budget. It could have been prepared by the clerical staff of the finance ministry and there was no need for the finance minister to prepare it," CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told IANS after Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee presented the budget in the Lok Sabha.
"It is ineffective and lacks focus. Increase in social welfare is nominal and there is no employment generation scheme," he said.
His colleague D. Raja added that it had nothing for the "aam adami", or common man.
"It is not an aam adami budget and focuses on status quo. This budget has no hint of a course correction to improve the economy," Raja told IANS.
"This budget follows the same old new liberal policies. It has not touched the corporate sector. The two percent service tax will result in increase of commodity prices," he said.
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechury said: "We had expected relief for common man in this budget but the hike in the indirect taxes will result in a burden for the poor." CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury told IANS.
The budget has raised both service tax and excise duties from 10 to 12 percent.
Yechury also noted that Mukherjee had said a lot about agriculture but it was not clear what exactly he wanted.
