Panaji, March 24 (IANS) Authorities in Goa have upped their precautionary measures as Pune in neighbouring Maharashtra reported several swine flu cases.

The directorate of health services (DHS) in Goa has issued written instructions to all government hospitals and health centres to keep tabs on patients who show symptoms of flu.

"It is just a precautionary measure. There is nothing much to worry about. We are just being cautious," DHS director Rajnanda Desai told IANS Saturday.

A sudden swine flu outbreak in Pune, 500 km from here, resulted in the death of four people over the last fortnight.

Passenger traffic between Pune and Goa is significant because of a pocket of Goans residing in Pune.

Goa, at an overnight journey's distance from Pune, is also a popular party and holiday destination for students and young professionals from Pune.

A similar swine flu out break in 2009-10 had dismantled the tourism season in Goa.
