Moscow, Feb 8 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A court in Russia's Far Eastern Amur region convicted two workers of a military plant who covertly manufactured pen guns, a spokesperson for the region's military authority said Wednesday.

The judge ordered them to serve four-year suspended sentences.

The two men, aged 36 and 37, were held in July 2011, after under-cover police officers purchased six pen guns from them at 5,000 rubles (about $170) each.

An investigation revealed that the workers made pen guns at the plant and kept the assembled weapons and spare parts in a locker.

Experts ruled the pen guns were "firearms" after tests revealed that bullets from such weapons have enough force to shoot through a thick tree.
